The C.R.E.W. stands for Campus Representatives for Engagement and Wellness with representation from all departments who meet to organize activities that will strengthen staff engagement and contribute to employee wellness.
C.R.E.W. Upcoming Events:
Activity Professional Day (February 2025) – The CREW will be running a Hot Chocolate & Cookie bar on February 27th, and the Recreation Department will be providing interactive booths throughout the week.
C.R.E.W. Event Archives:
Service Awards & Crosby Award Celebration (January 2025) – UHS recognized 16 staff who reached a service anniversary in 2024, as well as 4 recipients of a Crosby Bursary to continue their education. The SLT and representatives of the Board were present to present the awards. The celebration was followed by a light reception.
Holiday Staff Party (December 2024) – Staff enjoyed a magical night of food, games and dancing at the Markham Hilton Suites. The ballroom was transformed into a elegant venue while a photobooth was set-up in the reception area. The CREW delivered the 12 days of gifts following the Holiday Party.
Pumpkin Decorating Contest (October 2024) – Teams of staff competed to decorate a pumpkin with a fun or scary theme.
Appreciation Day (September 2024) – UHS recognized the contribution of our environmental staff with games of basketball toss, bean bag toss, and axe throwing.
Staff BBQ (September 2024) – Staff enjoyed a BBQ compliments of Compass Food, while the CREW delivered fun events such Corn hole, Axe Throwing, and ping-pong toss.
Staff Appreciation Week (May 2024) – UHS delivered a week of fun activities and food to celebrate our amazing staff. Events included a Scavenger Hunt, Basketball Toss, Just Dance Competition, Photobooth, and an Amazing Race contest. Food included a Churro truck, Popcorn day and a Smoothie Bar.
PSW Appreciation Day (May 2024) – We recognized our PSW staff with Samosas and fun games.
Nurse Appreciation Day (May 2024) – We celebrated our nurses with a Continental Breakfast and exciting activities.
Halloween Poster Challenge (October 2023) – A popular staff activity returns by popular demand! Staff departments/units were tasked with creating a Halloween themed poster which hung in the Heritage Lounge for family members, residents and fellow staff to vote on the best one.
UHS Retiree Celebration and BBQ (2023)
Spring Fling 2022 (April 25 – May 8, 2022) – An active and immersive event with five activities featured in the Heritage Lounge: Jelly Bean Guessing Game/Yoga Exercise/Plant-a-Flower/Community Art Board/Walking Loop
Halloween Poster Challenge (October 2021)- This C.R.E.W. initiative brought out the best in teamwork, creativity, and of course, FUN. Teams were tasked with creating a Halloween inspired poster to hang up in the Heritage Lounge for family members, residents and fellow staff to see and judge for prizes.
The UHS Night Market (September 2021)- A celebration of diversity and staff engagement through food. Staff were able to sample a variety of foods from different cultures and countries with their colleagues in the courtyard and gardens.
UHS Summer Olympics (July/Aug 2021)- The purpose of this activity was to reinforce the importance of regular exercise and its positive impact on mental health. Walking outdoors, taking in the fresh air was a definite mood booster and stress reliever.
UHS Staff Recipe Exchange (Ongoing)- Calling all home cooks and food lovers! As part of another exciting C.R.E.W. initiative to cultivate healthy lifestyles, we are asking you to send us your healthy recipes to share. They could be recipes that have been in the family for decades, or a more recent venture you had, as long as they are healthy and simple! Recipes can be submitted to any C.R.E.W. member or sent to csc@uhs.on.ca
